'081-BOOM' [Moving Shadow] by Sam Shrug. Original stencil, spray paint and acrylic on reclaimed Correx board.

Pulling logos, artwork and label stamps off obscure and iconic rave/jungle records, Sam Shrug hand-cut stencils to create multi-layer collages of paint all as a tribute to the rave music that the Essex-born artist grew up with.

The Hardcore Continuum (a term originally coined by iconic dance music journalist Simon Reynolds) is a river of rave that has flowed through the underground since house music hit the UK shores. As music evolves in waves, all tributaries return to the source.

This collection pays homage to the labels, lasers and music that has kept people dancing for decades.

"I wanted to recreate those smoke-filled Lazerdromes of jungle breaks, 808s and air horns on a material that feels authentic to the DIY culture of these late 80s/early 90s movements. Adverts produced on brightly coloured Correx board at drab printing firms are hoisted up at traffic lights like flags on a pirate ship. Pirate radio beams out the details on radio waves that permeate the city, while the vinyl that fill the DJ's record boxes are hand-stamped deep in a suburban kitchen somewhere. The same suburban areas with warehouses that on weekend nights were filled with rigs, punters and pills."

This is The Rave Contiuum.
